About Us

Our mission is to connect our community with fresh, local food and handcrafted goods, supporting local farmers and artisans while fostering a vibrant gathering place.

The Swissvale Farmers Market was founded in 2013 and incorporated in 2019. We are a market run by the community for the community. For a full list of our rules & regulations please go to: https://bit.ly/SFMPolicies

Our Market is run by

The Board, which is comprised of five to nine volunteers, a Vendor Market Representative, and The Market Manager. We are a small team bringing who all have the same vision, to provide a space for community members, artists, non-profits, musicians, and farmers together.

We are an incubator for small-businesses who are looking for a space to launch their business. We want you to join our market!

Market Board of Directors

Young Grguras (they/them) – President

Our longest-standing active board member, Young, knows that a market is only as strong as its commitment to the people. Starting as Assistant Manager, Young eventually led a grassroots movement to ensure the market remained open, inclusive, and community-led. For Young, the Swissvale Farmers Market isn’t just a place to shop—it’s a vital outlet for community organizing and a stand for true inclusivity.

Beth Pindilli (she/her) – Vice President

For Beth, the market is where sustainability meets friendship. She joined our board because she knows that eating locally is the single most effective way to shrink our carbon footprint, but she stays for the connections. To Beth, the market isn’t just a place to shop—it’s the best way to truly know your neighbors and build a stronger Swissvale.

Amy Milo – Treasurer

When Amy moved from Virginia to Swissvale, she was looking for more than just a home—she was looking for a community. Knowing no one in Pittsburgh at the time, she joined the market team to turn a new city into a neighborhood. Today, she’s proof that the market is the best place to plant roots and turn strangers into lifelong friends.

Alissa Freese – Secretary

Community isn’t just a word to Alissa; it’s an action. Whether she’s documenting the market’s growth or sparkled in conversation with shoppers and vendors, Alissa’s mission is clarity and connection. She doesn’t believe in ‘free time’ – only time spent making Swissvale stronger together.

Mayor Deneen Swartzwelder – Board Member Emeritus
